Electricity is a fast-paced play telling the story of four young people whose lives are sent into a spin by an incident on a London Tube. It was commissioned by NYT in 2015, written specially for NYT Playing Up, and premiered at the Arcola Theatre. After writing Electricity for Playing Up Miriam Battye's writing credits have included writing on global HBO hit Succession, writing Scenes with Girls for the Royal Court Theatre, and The Virgins for Soho Theatre earlier in 2026.

With over 700k young people unemployed in a five year high, Playing Up aims to provide a route back into work and training for young people. Playing Up is part of a series of free accredited programmes offered by the charity, which also includes a free Script School launched in 2025 and Stepping Up, a free performance and creative leadership short course.
