Deep Dive: Environmental Benefits from Nature Tool
10.00 to 11.00am on Thursday 14th November
Join us for a deep dive into the Environmental Benefits from Nature (EBN) Tool presented by Senior Strategy Officer Andrew Thompson.
This tool is designed to help green infrastructure planners maximize the multifunctionality of their projects and assist funders in achieving greater impact on their investments. Here's what you can expect to learn:
1. How the EBNT tool can: -
- Help users deliver greater multifunctionality from land use change and increase wider benefits.
- Assist users in realizing greater returns from their investments by considering the services that nature provides to people, such as flood management, water supply, cooling, and shading.
2. The tool can be used with Biodiversity Net Gain or Green Infrastructure work to facilitate discussions about the implications of change, local needs, and opportunities for positive integrated action through more integrated design.
3. The outputs from the tool generate an indicative and bespoke picture of change across 18 different ecosystem services over time, allowing for comparison of options and maximization of co-benefits.
4. Use of the tool is voluntary and in the beta phase, but it has already proven to be a valuable resource for many stakeholders, with over 4000 downloads. Feedback from early adopters, namely progressive environmental consultants, infrastructure and housing developers, and local authorities is driving progress and improvement.
5. The tool is being updated to make consideration quicker, easier, and more integrated, with more information about planned changes to be announced in the coming months.
