Meitheal for Insects

Sun 21 Sep 2025 11:00 - 13:00 IST Tramore Valley Park, T12 AE86

We need your help! Join us for a hands-on community event to create an insect hotel in Tramore Valley Park to improve habitat for the park’s invertebrate species.

Following extensive insect surveys carried out as part of the Tramore Valley Insects Project,  Nature Network Ireland Ecologist John O’Sullivan identified microhabitats already thriving with biodiversity, as well as areas that would benefit from habitat enhancement.

On the day, under the guidance of expert landscape architect Ron de Bruin, we’ll work together to construct an insect hotel from natural materials. This new feature will support nesting and overwintering species while shining a spotlight on the importance of insect biodiversity in urban green spaces.

This event is part of the Tramore Valley Park Insects Project, made possible through a grant from Community Foundation Ireland in partnership with the National Parks and Wildlife Service.

This is also a joint event with the KinShip Eco-Lab which is an outcome of the KinShip Project, a durational public artwork at Tramore Valley Park by Cork City Council in partnership with artists Lennon Taylor (Marilyn Lennon and Sean Taylor) and supported by Creative Ireland.

Come along, get involved, and help us make Tramore Valley Park even more welcoming to the smallest but most important members of our ecosystem!
