FROM GARDENS TO BRAHMS - An Evening of Clarinet, Piano, and Cello

Join us for opening night of the 2026-27 NashvilleCMS season, featuring clarinetist Danny Goldman, pianist Alessandra Volpi, and cellist MaryGrace Waggoner. 

The first half of this program features works for clarinet and piano by Malcolm Arnold, Gabriel Pierné, Eugène Bozza, and Paul Reade. Arnold’s Sonatina moves through three very different moods, from energetic and bright to tender and playful. Pierné’s Canzonetta and Bozza’s Fantaisie Italienne highlight the warm, singing side of the clarinet, while Reade’s Suite from The Victorian Kitchen Garden takes us through five short pieces inspired by the changing seasons and atmosphere of an English garden. How fun!

The evening closes with Brahms’s Trio in A Minor, Op. 114, written near the end of Brahms’s life. With clarinet, cello, and piano, Brahms creates music that is intimate and expressive, moving between moments of warmth, quiet reflection, and energy.
