Case Study: Lessons from a Complex Hostage Negotiation
This four-hour, in-person training examines a complex 2005 hostage-taking and shooting incident involving convicted killer James Trimble. Retired officers Korach and Robertson will present the case and share lessons learned from their direct involvement and the nearly two decades of legal, professional, and personal experiences that followed.
The case provides negotiators with an opportunity to examine the challenges of managing a complex hostage situation, decision-making under pressure, negotiation strategies, and the long-term implications of critical incidents.
Through detailed case review and discussion, participants will identify practical lessons and takeaways that can be applied to contemporary hostage and crisis negotiation. The extended four-hour format allows for a comprehensive examination of the incident, its challenges, and its implications for today’s negotiation profession.
