Join David R. Scott and Gavin McKinnon — authors of the long-awaited updated edition of the Birds of Alberta field guide — for a casual evening of conversation and community. The Camera Store will be on hand with binocular samples and long lenses to try.
This event is sponsored by Neil Zee Photo Corp and is free to attend.
The books are available for purchase on the night.
If you've spent any time birding in Alberta, you know the original Birds of Alberta field guide. It's been on the dashboards, in the vest pockets, and on the bookshelves of birders across this province for years.
David R. Scott and Gavin McKinnon have written the updated edition — a full-colour, comprehensive new edition covering more than 300 species across the prairies, foothills, mountains, boreal forests, and urban spaces of Alberta. Updated ranges and populations, recent taxonomy changes, and the depth of knowledge that comes from two authors who have spent years in the field across every corner of this province.
I'm hosting this evening as a thank-you to the birding and photography communities that have supported my work over the years. Come as you are, stay as long as you like. This is a relaxed, come-and-go gathering — drop in for a quick hello or settle in for the evening. No presentations, no schedule. Just good people, great conversation, and two authors who genuinely love Alberta's birds.
The Camera Store will also be joining us with a selection of binoculars and long-lens samples to handle and explore. Whether you've been thinking about your first pair of binoculars or you're curious what a serious telephoto feels like in your hands, this is a chance to have a look at the latest tech and gear.
David and Gavin will have at least 100 copies on hand for purchase and signing, and a portion of the proceeds will go directly to Bird Studies Canada.
