The Canadian Rockies Train Days have been among Neil's favourite days, and this time we're bringing in a specialist.
Ryan "Boxcar" Gaynor has spent years chasing locomotives through these mountains, and we've partnered with him to give you a day that goes well beyond pointing your camera at a moving train. We'll depart Calgary at 5:30 AM, grab breakfast along the way, and position ourselves to catch the Rocky Mountaineer before it begins its westbound journey. From there, we leapfrog to our favourite spots through the Bow Valley and into British Columbia, working the light and the schedule together. This is a small group, a long lens, and one of the most photogenic rail corridors on earth. We'll find and photograph all the freight trains on this day once we say goodbye to the Rocky!

From Ryan:
When it comes to rail photography, there are few places in the world that rival the Canadian Rockies for the pictures you'll get. After all, these are hallowed rails — the same ones that helped build Canada as a nation over 140 years ago. But it's more than just history. It's the crisp mountain air and the gentle flow of the Bow River. It's standing humbled beneath peaks that have stood for millennia, then hearing a horn echo through the valley and feeling it in your chest. It's the anticipation of the train, the wildlife that might wander into frame, and the harmony of rails and nature coming together in one perfect shot. That's the magic we chase. From Morant's Curve to the Spiral Tunnels, these spots are iconic for a reason. With Neil Zeller's expert eye and my years chasing trains through these mountains, we know exactly where to take you — and when — to capture moments you'll carry with you long after the shutter clicks. Buckle up and let's explore.
