Sam Steele - Author Book Signing Trail

Meet the Author! Ness Book Fest is delighted to host local Author Sam Steele. 

Sam Steele is a Canadian born, but settled in Inverness after 20 years in uniform. He started writing poetry while on tour in the Falkland Islands. Then after a request from his daughter to help with a Santa’s Grotto he took pen to paper and wrote ‘Santa’s Adventure at Loch Ness’, which became his first Children’s Picture Book. The same daughter now runs the North Gateway Café in Daviot Woods and whilst there Sam was challenged to write a story about their resident red squirrel – which became ‘Rupert the Red Squirrel’. When delivering these books to Loch Ness Gifts at Dores, Sam was asked if he had any stories about alpacas – No. Why? Was the reply. Because of the alpacas on Loch Ness and thus the 3rd story ‘Luno the Loch Ness Alpaca’ was born.

Sam has a wide range of things he can write on and this year debuted at the Edinburgh Fringe with a show called ‘Poems for People Who Don’t Like Poetry’. It was a light-hearted hour showcasing that poetry can be fun and uplifting. A poem inspired by the Mikeysline logo ‘A Freebie that is a Free Bee’. His feeling on ‘The Self-Service Checkout’. And for course his signature poem ‘If a Toucan Who can Cancan, can Cancan with a Crow’.

Sam will be launching his 4 Children’s Picture Book in 2027 and before then he is proud to announce he will be performing in the inaugural Inverness Fringe in Sep 26.

Sam’s main income comes from running a B&B in Inverness, he likes to salsa dance and in the off season you can find him exploring the wonderful highlands on his (electric assisted) bike. Sam is one of the regular MCs at the Friday Night Open Mic at The Bike Shed. He attends poetry and comedy nights across Scotland (and he’s played Birmingham Symphony Hall (you gotta love an open mic that is in an impressive venue)) and the Tartan Heart Festival.
