Working With Carers

Sat 19 Sep 2026 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM Network Counselling and Training, BS34 7PS

The aim of this workshop is for participants to explore what the term ‘carer’ means and dive into the depths of understanding more about an ‘invisible army’. The workshop will build on existing knowledge, providing further information and perspective. Empowering our understanding as therapists in practice, which in turn supports and empowers clients who have a caring role.

This workshop will:

  • Consider the term ‘carer’ through a socially constructed lens!
  • Examine if all carers are equal and how intersectionality’s can impact those with a caring role.
  • Explore the impact of caregiving, the shadow side and carer burnout.
  • Give an overview of the Carers Act and carers rights.
  • Explore practical ways of building toolkits with carers.
  • There will be a Q&A session at the end of the workshop.

About the Trainer:

Bev is a qualified counsellor and supervisor in training; her private practice specialises in neurodiversity and working with carers.

Bev brings 35 years of experience working within Health & Social Care into her counselling practice. She understands policy, systems, processes as well as the intended and unintended consequences of services and those who can and cannot navigate access and use them.

Bev is an experienced facilitator who has delivered psychoeducation courses for carers, as well as carer awareness training for community and inpatient mental health teams. Alongside this she has set up and run carer support groups and carer wellbeing events.

As a carer, Bev brings a personal perspective that shines a light on the often-unspoken complexities, challenges and feelings that can come with caregiving.
