Across The Atlantic: Dutch-American Dialogue

Our upcoming concert, Across The Atlantic: Dutch-American Dialogues, celebrates the historic ties between the Netherlands and the United States through music for violin and piano. Presented in the year of New Castle’s 375th anniversary, the program reflects the city’s journey from its Dutch beginnings as Fort Casimir to its place within American history.

The performers’ own cultural backgrounds are woven naturally into this musical dialogue. Dutch pianist Sharon Niessen brings a personal connection to works by Ton de Leeuw and Willem Pijper, while violinist ShanRong Tuo’s Chinese heritage is reflected in Tan Dun’s Hero Sonata. As a Chinese-born American composer, Tan Dun forms a natural bridge between her heritage and the program’s American dimension. Music by Amy Beach and Aaron Copland completes the journey with contrasting expressions of the American musical voice.

Together, these works celebrate heritage, cultural exchange, and the connections that continue to develop across countries and generations.

The concert will be held in the historic Arsenal at 30 Market Street in New Castle. Seating is very limited for this intimate concert so order your tickets early.

A reception and meet and greet with the performers will be held immediately following the performance. Light refreshments including both Dutch and American foods will be served. The concert at the Arsenal is fully accessible. Free on street parking is available through out the New Castle historic district.
