The Citizen Quest training experience (June-July 2025)
Need help?
We believe that when given the opportunity, people can and want to work together to shape the world we live in.
Led by this belief, we see our role as inspiring and equipping organisations of all kinds to involve people as Citizens, not just treat them as Consumers. As Consumers, people have only one role - to buy stuff from you. By contrast, when we think of people as Citizens, we begin to ask what we can all contribute to and how we can all shape the things that matter.
The Citizen Quest is a blended in-person / online training for people who want to build knowledge, skills and confidence to involve people - whether that’s members, supporters, communities or customers - meaningfully in their work.
Over 30 days, we’ll be offering inspiration, tools and support to help develop a ‘Citizen practice’, equipping you to take ideas and opportunities back into your organisation, and to bring your colleagues along on the journey with you.
The experience includes a full-day in-person workshop, weekly prompts and peer support sessions, and a final online reflection session. You’ll join a cohort of individuals from across different sectors to connect with, learn alongside and develop your practice together. This Quest will support you to try things out, and learn as you go.
Throughout the 30 days you will:
Explore what it might mean to embrace a ‘Citizen Shift’ in your organisation;
Be immersed in best practice participation from across sectors;
Try out practical tools and approaches - such as our 7 Modes of Everyday Participation - helping you to broaden out your current participation opportunities;
Be connected to a cohort of participants to share experience, learnings and inspiration throughout the Quest;
Gain access to future events and learning calls, open to all our previous Questers;
Learn how best to share your learnings back at your organisation.
What's included?
Full-day workshop: Wednesday 18th June, 10am-5pm, London (venue tbc)
Online weekly catch ups for support, inspiration and prompts: these are virtual (and optional), and will take place the following 4x Thursdays, 10-10:45am. All information will also be sent out via email for those who can't make it.
Online group reflection session: Wednesday 23rd July, time tbc but planned for 10am-12noon (online). We will discuss with the group and find a date and time that suits as many people of possible. If for any reason you can't make the reflection session, we will endeavour to arrange a follow-up call with you to reflect on the Quest together.
FAQs
I’m intrigued, why 30 days?
We know from experience that, despite good intentions, after a training day away from the desk, it can be easy to return to business as usual. The 30-day nature of the training gives you time to bring the ideas back into your organisation, to try things out, to build better connections with the cohort over time and reflect together at the end of the journey.
This all sounds really interesting but I’m wondering if my organisation is the right fit?
If you’re a business, charity, or government that’s trying to achieve something, locally or globally, then you can unlock new possibilities by working with people as Citizens, not just as Consumers. We believe this is a shift that is happening right across society, and we work with organisations of all kinds to make it happen: from health to cultural heritage to charities (and everything in between). If you’d like to discuss more whether it’s the right fit, please get in touch at hello@newcitizenproject.com
I think this would be great for a few colleagues! Can I book more than one place?
Yes, absolutely! We’re happy to welcome up to 5 people from a single organisation. From experience we find that cross-organisational learning is hugely powerful so setting an upper limit means that everyone can benefit from that. We also run workshops and trainings for individual organisations, so if you're looking for something more bespoke (and cost effective) for your organisation, please get in touch at hello@newcitizenproject.com
Do you have any bursary places available?
As well as our charity / non-profit discount, we do have a small number of bursary places available for organisations who otherwise would not be able to take part. Please email us on hello@newcitizenproject.com to enquire.
I can’t make this Quest, but I’d like to join one in future - when is the next one?
We run Quests on a regular basis, so if you can’t make this one, don’t worry! To stay updated on future Quests, sign up to our mailing list and you’ll be the first to know about future dates.
I’m a consultant / freelancer, can I join?
Unfortunately we are unable to accommodate external consultants or freelancers on this particular training. If you would like to chat to us about our work then we’d love to hear from you.
I can't get to London for that date, is there the option to join the first workshop online?
Unfortunately not for now! We are looking at the possibility of creating an online Quest, but in-person interaction is integral to the way we have designed this one. Stay up to date with any developments by signing up to our newsletter here.
If you have any further questions about the Quest or our wider work, you can contact us at hello@newcitizenproject.com - we look forward to hearing from you, and hopefully welcoming you on a future Citizen Quest!
