Discover the traditional craft of hedge laying at New House Farm, where tenant farmer Sarah is managing the hedgerows within her beef cattle grazing system. Over the two days, Malcolm and Mark will guide you through the regional hedge laying style, explaining the importance of hedgerows within farming and for wildlife, the tools of the trade, and giving you plenty of hands-on experience in the field.

What’s Included

• Two days of practical tuition by Welsh hedge laying contractors
• Introduction to hedge laying tools & techniques on first morning 
• Day 1 afternoon in the field. Full second day in the field.
• Working in small groups.
• Understanding why hedgerows matter for biodiversity, farming & landscape character 
• Tools provided (this course is taught with traditional hand tools not chainsaw.If you have your own hand tools, feel free to bring along) 
• Refreshments and a soup lunch included

• Waterproofs & warm outdoor clothing
• Thick gloves
• Sturdy boots
• Any extra food
