Discover the traditional craft of hedge laying at New House Farm, where tenant farmer Sarah is managing the hedgerows within her beef cattle grazing system. Over the two days, Malcolm and Mark, Welsh hedge layers, will guide you through the regional hedge laying style, explaining the importance of hedgerows for farming and wildlife, the tools of the trade, and giving you plenty of hands-on experience in the field.

What’s Included

Two days of practical tuition Introduction to hedge laying tools & techniques. Day 1 we will spend the morning in the barn going through the theory, and the afternoon in the field. Day 2 will be spent outside the majority of the day. We will discuss why hedgerows matter for biodiversity, farming & landscape character. Tools provided (this course is taught with traditional hand tools not chainsaw. If you have your own hand tools, feel free to bring along)

Refreshments and a soup lunch included. Any additional food / snacks, please bring.
