Join us for a special screening of the award-winning documentary Paula Rego: Secrets & Stories, presented by acclaimed filmmaker Nick Willing, the film's director and Paula Rego's son.

Offering an exceptionally intimate portrait of one of Britain's most celebrated artists, the documentary reveals the personal experiences, political convictions and hidden stories that shaped Rego's extraordinary artistic vision. Famously private throughout much of her life, Paula Rego speaks with remarkable honesty, sharing memories of growing up under fascism in Portugal, navigating a male-dominated art world, living with depression, and the powerful role storytelling played throughout her work.

Following the screening, Nick Willing will take part in a live Q&A, offering unique insights into both the making of the film and his mother's life and legacy. Having spent a year filming and interviewing Paula Rego, Nick uncovers deeply personal stories that transformed his own understanding of his mother, resulting in a moving documentary that won both the Grierson Award and the Royal Television Society Award for Best Arts Programme.

This is a rare opportunity to experience Paula Rego's remarkable story through the eyes of the person who knew her best, while gaining a deeper understanding of the themes explored in our exhibition, Paula Rego: Visions of English Literature.
