Thu 9 Jun 2022 12:30 PM - 2:00 PM BST
Newlands House Gallery, GU28 0DX
Description
Catherine Lampert is an art historian and curator. She was Director of the Whitechapel Gallery and for the last twenty years has been
curating exhibitions for public galleries and writing on Rodin, Daumier, Lucian Freud, Francis Alÿs, Peter Doig and others.
She began sitting for Frank Auerbach in 1978 and wrote Frank Auerbach. Speaking and Painting (2015).
She is the co-author of the catalogue raisonné of Lucian Freud's paintings to be published in 2023,
Frank Auerbach: I think of all pictorial work as ‘drawing’ – that is as catching and placing.
Catherine Lampert will consider what Frank means by this statement, and his related objective, to surprise himself. This will be linked to her contact with artists of a younger generation who are discovering Auerbach from fresh perspectives. Sitting for Frank every week since May 1978, her experience is one of being continually moved and amazed by what happens in the studio and what Frank says.
Tickets: £25 which includes a voucher for 20% discount off lunch at the HG Café to be used on 9th June.
