Brandon James O'Neil, PhD, Sunday, August 31, 3:30-4:30PM, $25

Swedish scientist and mystic Emanuel Swedenborg (1688-1772) has been called the Buddha of the North; he might also be called the first modern dreamer. Beginning in 1743, Swedenborg earnestly searched his vivid dreams for psychological and spiritual meaning, leading to his initiation into "heavenly secrets" in 1745. This lecture explores Swedenborg's dream diary through Jungian analytical psychology, tracing archetypal structures through what scholars identify as the longest and oldest series of dreams prior to the birth of modern psychology. Drawing from O'Neil's extensive experience in dream work, attendees will also gain useful insight into their own sometimes puzzling dreams, lifting what Swedenborg called the "shining black veil" that separates us from deeper levels of consciousness.

Brandon James O'Neil, PhD studied at The University of Iowa and is currently pursuing Dream Work Certification through The Haden Institute. He is a member of the C. G. Jung Foundation of New York, and his work has appeared in Psychological Perspectives, Image, and Quadrant: Journal Of The C. G. Jung Foundation.
