don Miguel Ruiz Jr. and don Jose Ruiz, Saturday, November 1, 2:30-4:30PM, $45 (Book Signing to Follow!)

At the apex of a power journey, don Miguel Ruiz tells his eldest son: “Find your way out. Go home and master Death by becoming alive.”

Don Miguel Ruiz, Jr. and don Jose Ruiz return to New Renaissance Bookstore for the first time in five years on Saturday, November 1st — Día de Todos los Santos, the opening of the Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico. It is the day we honor those who have passed, yet continue to live within our hearts and memories, reminding us to cherish ourselves, our loved ones, and to take nothing in life for granted. The Ruiz Brothers’ last gathering at New Renaissance came just before the world closed its doors in 2020 a living example of this lesson that life can change in an instant. From this truth we learn: to meet each opportunity with our whole selves, to be fully present, and to treasure every moment as a gift. This is true in relationships as it is in life. That is the essence of what our elders have taught us regarding this celebration; respecting Death allows us to let go of the fear we have of Life. Thus, to us the Day of the Dead is a celebration of love, for we could not mourn if we did not love those who have gone before us.

“When we lose the fear of saying goodbye, we lose the fear of saying hello.”

-don Miguel Ruiz Jr.

At this event, each brother will share from their newest books, guiding readers to release old dreams and step into new ones through the wisdom of the their family’s Toltec tradition: My Good Friend the Rattlesnake by don Jose Ruiz, and The Poisoned Arrow: A Toltec Guide to Overcoming Fear by don Miguel Ruiz Jr.

About My Good Friend the Rattlesnake by don Jose Ruiz

event_description_image_82077_1756408906_31b09.jpeg?_a=BAACd3DQ

In My Good Friend the Rattlesnake, Ruiz, now a bestselling author and spiritual teacher, reveals the dramatic twists and turns he experienced on his own path to personal freedom and inner transformation.

Through this series of deeply intimate stories, Ruiz explains how he overcame his addiction to suffering and embraced a life of love, clarity, and self-awareness. In one example, he recounts his unexpected journey with temporary blindness, which paradoxically allowed him to see what truly mattered. In another, he celebrates individuality in spiritual practice, challenging the idea that it must look or sound a particular way to be authentic.

Throughout, Ruiz incorporates the teachings of his father, don Miguel Ruiz (author of The Four Agreements). The lessons he shares are practical, profound, and accessible, making this book an essential companion for anyone seeking spiritual growth and emotional healing. Honest, vulnerable, and rich with exercises and meditations, My Good Friend the Rattlesnake redefines what it means to heal, grow, and live authentically.

When the world wounds us with a metaphorical arrow, many of us spend our days chasing unanswerable questions: Why was I hurt? Who is to blame? Will it happen again? Beneath these restless inquiries lies a deeper truth: even though the event is now over, the fear it left behind is like a poison. It courses through our veins—whispering doubts, weaving prisons from old wounds, and painting the world in shades of threat and scarcity.

But there is an antidote.

In this transformative guide to overcoming fear, beloved Toltec teacher don Miguel Ruiz Jr. invites you to remove both the arrow and its poison. Through Toltec wisdom and timeless parable, you will learn to:

· Recognize fear’s hidden influence in your thoughts, words, and choices.

· Break free from fear-based agreements that keep you trapped in anxiety and unhappiness.

· Reclaim your power as the artist of your life, creating a reality rooted in peace and authenticity.

With prose as tender as it is incisive, this book is not a map—it is a mirror. Look closely, and you may find that the antidote was always within you.
