Celebrate Earth Day and stay up to date with nut growing in New York!
Register to attend the New York Nut Growers Association 2023 Spring Meeting in Tompkins County and meet experienced growers.
The meeting's main program will take place from 8:30 am - 12:15 pm at 4-H Acres, 418 Lower Creek Road, Ithaca, NY, 14850. Morning discussion topics include layering hazelnuts and chestnuts, an ecological approach to nut growing, how to protect nut trees from small mammals, an update on the NYNGA English walnut project, an introduction to the NY Farm Viability Institute (a non-profit grant-making organization) and an overview of crop insurance.
In the afternoon, from 1:30 pm - 3:00 pm, we will visit Surik Mehrabyan's nursery at 191 Millard Hill Road, Newfield, NY, 14867, where we will focus on bench grafting, chip budding, and greenwood grafting.
Attendees are welcome to bring nuts to eat and to plant as well as scionwood and rootstock to share.
The New York Nut Growers Association is an all volunteer, non-profit organization that promotes nut tree growing in New York State. It's not necessary to be a member of the New York Nut Growers Association (NYNGA) to attend this meeting. A light breakfast and lunch are included in the $20.00 cost of meeting registration. Pre-registration is required to facilitate meal planning. Pants, socks and comfortable walking shoes or boots are suggested for the afternoon nursery tour.
