Masterclass With Olga Kern

Sun Nov 15, 2026 2:30 PM - 4:30 PM Steinway Hall, 1133 Avenue of the Americas, 10036

Dear NYPS Family,

Please join us for a very special afternoon at Steinway Hall as celebrated pianist Olga Kern, one of the great artists of her generation, leads a masterclass with members of the New York Piano Society. Known around the world for her commanding stage presence, brilliant technique and deeply expressive playing, she brings rare insight to pianists who pursue music alongside other careers.

Born into a family of musicians, Olga Kern won First Prize at the Rachmaninoff International Piano Competition at just seventeen. In 2001 she captured the Gold Medal at the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, becoming the first woman in more than thirty years to do so, a historic victory that launched an international career. A laureate of numerous international competitions, she has since performed with the Czech Philharmonic, the Filarmonica della Scala, the NHK Symphony Orchestra in Tokyo and the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington, D.C., and has given solo recitals at Carnegie Hall. Her recording of Rachmaninoff's Corelli Variations and transcriptions earned a Grammy nomination, and her discography spans Harmonia Mundi, Sony and Delos. A Steinway Artist, she received the Ellis Island Medal of Honor in 2017.

Olga Kern is equally devoted to the next generation of musicians. She teaches on the piano faculty of the Manhattan School of Music, serves as Director of Chamber Music at the Virginia Arts Festival, sits on the juries of major international competitions, and founded the Kern Foundation "Aspiration" to support young artists. In 2016 she established the Olga Kern International Piano Competition in Albuquerque, New Mexico, which she leads as Artistic Director to help young pianists from around the world launch international careers.
