Masculinity Under Pressure: A Writing Circle

Calling all current and aspiring writers: Join Next Gen Men’s Writing Circle as we explore Masculinity Under Pressure.

Join us on February 13 at 6:30 pm PT for a first-of-its-kind event. We’re hosting a writing circle! Join for the chance to share your work, write together, and learn how you can have your work published.

The notorious and luxurious cocktail lounge, The Living Room in the Belmont Hotel (654 Nelson St, Vancouver) is graciously hosting us. 

To write is to release. So let’s release some pressure together as we express, unwind, inspire, explore, and connect. See you then!

What will we be doing?
Event Agenda:

• Welcome and introductions

• Group discussion; sharing prepared writing on the theme: Masculinity Under Pressure.

• Free writing circle on prompts (revealed in the moment!)

• As you might know, NGM just inherited its first magazine, Voice Male. So we’ll also explain how folks can submit their writing for publication (if they are interested!)

• Closeout, lounge and linger

How to prepare ahead of time:
Write something (a reflection, a blog, a poem, song lyrics, whatever you want!) that explores the relationship between masculinity and pressure. You’ll be invited (but not expected) to share your work with the group.
Let these questions inspire your writing:

What pressures do men, boys, and masculine folks experience? What does that pressure feel like? Who do they experience these pressures from? What pressures do men, boys, and masculine folks place on those around them? What could it mean to release pressure? What would it mean to be free from pressure to perform masculinity a certain way? How might life look different?

Who is this event for?

🙋 Folks of any gender ages 19+ who have an interest in the topic are welcome to attend!
✍️ All forms of writing and all kinds of writers (novice, experienced, prepared, unprepared, unpublished) are welcome.
