Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH): what healthcare professionals need to know

Central and South Genomics is holding a webinar on Familial Hypercholesterolemia (FH), delivered by Sarah Day, Deputy Manager of the West Midlands Familial Hypercholesterolemia Service and Lead FH Clinical Nurse Specialist.

FH is an inherited condition that is passed down through families; it's caused by a genetic variant making the liver less able to remove excess LDL, resulting in increased LDL levels in the blood. Having FH results in an increased risk of developing heart and circulatory disease at an early age if left untreated.

FH affects about 1 in every 250 people, making it one of the most common inherited conditions. It’s estimated that around 270,000 people in the UK have it, with many unaware. FH has a 50% chance of being passed down from a parent to a child.

Many healthcare professionals are unaware of FH, and this webinar will provide an opportunity to learn more about FH, the impact on patients, and how to order testing. Attendees will also learn how to communicate about FH with patients and their families.
