Genomics for Medical Educators

We are pleased to invite medical educators to a 1‑day intensive “Genomics for Medical Educators” course.

This course will be delivered by education specialists, consultant clinical geneticists, pharmacist specialists, and patient experts from Central and South Genomics. 

The NHS Long Term Plan highlights genomics as a core component of future healthcare delivery. However, recent surveys of educators indicate that many feel their genomics knowledge is limited, insufficiently grounded in clinical practice, and that there is a strong desire to update and strengthen curricula in this area. This course has been designed specifically to address these needs.

Course overview

The programme will support educators to confidently teach genomics within a real‑world NHS context, covering:

• Core fundamentals of genomics
• Taking a family history and inheritance patterns
• Genomic condition red flags using family history - would you refer?
• Consenting and ethics
• Types of genomic tests
• Pharmacogenomics
• Polygenic risk scores and population health
• The patient experience
