Since 2006, Nicaragua has been a country at peace that has made huge progress in addressing the country’s main enemy: poverty.
But, this year we have witnessed an ever more belligerent US asserting its will across Latin America in order to establish the whole region as its own ‘backyard.’
This neocolonial bullying is implemented by ensuring compliant regimes across Latin America through military action (Venezuela), brutal sanctions (Cuba), and interfering in elections (Honduras, Colombia, Peru).
Nicaragua has stood firm against US efforts to subjugate the country to its will. But more intense threats are looming.
Speakers will look at the threats Nicaragua now faces from the US and their likely implications. Members of recent delegations to Nicaragua will also speak about their experiences and the way in which they have been inspired by a country which continues to prioritise the many over the few and build a better world.
