Keswick
Description
This event is run for Love Her Wild, a women's outdoor adventure community
Join us for an unforgettable three-day hiking adventure through the breathtaking Lake District, as we journey on foot from Keswick to Ambleside (approx 45km). This guided hike is perfect for those who want to experience the beauty of the Lake District without having to carry a heavy backpack and with the comfort of accommodation in hostels along the way.
The lake district landscape has inspired so much art and literature through the centuries and with good reason. Whenever I arrive and catch my first glimpse of the fells and the water, it never fails to take my breath away. It is the place I will always return to and the place that has given me adventure, inspiration, beauty, awe, comfort, challenge, and so much more. I am so excited to share it with you.
On this adventure, we will follow lakeside paths and mountain trails. Some high ground, uneven, rocky and muddy surfaces with rugged fellwalking will be covered so you should have walking experience and be confident of spending full days walking including ascent and descent. We will follow some sections of the Cumbria Way and other lakeland trails during our journey and will carry our own day packs. A full kit list will be provided but the provision of bedding in the hostels means you can keep your pack weight down and focus on enjoying the journey. We will walk in the spirit of Love Her Wild…. as a friendly, supportive and inclusive team, at a pace that allows us to enjoy the views and the journey.
The schedule:
Saturday:
We'll meet in Keswick in the morning, share a briefing of the event and set out on our journey.
We’ll hike approx 15km to Rosthwaite, which should take approx 6 hours, plus plenty of time for breaks and taking in the view. We’ll enjoy the stunning views of Derwent Water and the surrounding mountains including Catbells and walk on lakeside paths, through woodland, over fells and by the river. Today has it all!
We will arrive on foot in this gorgeous location and settle into our first hostel for the night (YHA). You have the option of bringing some simple food that can be prepared in the self catering kitchen for your evening meal and breakfast the following day or enjoying the onsite catering (food not included).
Sunday:
After breakfast at the hostel, we will lace up our boots for day 2 on our trail.
Today's hike from Rosthwaite to Elterwater will be approx 19km, allowing around 6-7 hours plus plenty of breaks. We will never be far away from the water today as rivers guide us out of the village, up the valley and through the high mountain passes before descending again to the rugged langdale valley and Elterwater - the perfect base for you to bask in the satisfaction of having journeyed here on foot!
At tonight’s independent hostel, we again have the choice to prepare simple meals in the self catering kitchen or enjoy a well priced two course meal with paid catering (not included).
Monday:
After breakfast at the hostel, we prepare to depart for our final and shortest stage of our journey.
Today's hike from Elterwater to Ambleside will be approx 10km, allowing 3-4 hours for walking plus plenty of breaks. We will explore Loughrigg fell and enjoy views of Rydal Water before walking our way into the beautiful village of Ambleside.
We will take the bus to make our return journey from Ambleside to Keswick and enjoy taking in all the gorgeous views from the bus window, recognising the landscape that now feels so much more familiar (bus fare not included).
We will arrive back at Keswick in the afternoon, ready to say our goodbyes.
A bit about your host for the adventure:
Hi, I’m Nic and my passion is long distance hiking. My latest adventure was spending 100 days walking the length of Britain from Lands End to John o’Groats. I've also hiked trails across Europe including the Tour de Mont Blanc and further afield hiking on the Great Wall of China and the W Trail in Patagonia. I am a qualified Mountain Leader, Outdoor First Aider and love nothing more than sharing a walk with others. My ethos is very much about enjoying the journey rather than going fast! I hope you can join me on this special adventure!

Notes:
2 nights simple accommodation costs are included, at 2 hostels, in dorm style rooms with showers and toilet facilities. We will have private rooms for our group but will not have sole use of the hostel so there may be other guests present in shared spaces
Food and bus fare are not included although you can keep costs low by bringing some simple food to prepare in the onsite self catering kitchens.
We will each be required to carry our own rucksack with clothing / food for the three days. You will be provided with a full kit list ahead of time and we'll be encouraging you to travel as light as possible!
A good level of fitness is required. The days hiking will be long. We'll be covering a good distance each day, along uneven ground with some steep ascents and descents.
