This exciting workshop will be offered in the UK for the first time and is a rare and special opportunity for those who are keen to learn Huni Kuin chants.

As part of the workshop you will undergo a traditional ritual called HAMPAIA, a baptism with chilli pepper, that is performed in the Huni Kuin community to help them learn sacred Huni Kuin chants. 

The ceremony will be led by Kawá Huni Kuin - a teacher, musician and pajé (traditional healer) from the Huni Kuin (Kaxinawá) Indigenous group based in Acre, Brazil.

The JAPINI (Golden-winged cacique/ Cacicus Chrysopterus) is a yellow and black bird that is able to replicate all of the sounds of the rainforest birds. The Huni Kuin believe that the japini gave them their voice, their ability to sing. In Hantxa Kuin, the Huni Kuin language, this bird is also called a TXANA.

This event is a fundraiser and all proceeds will be donated to Kawá's village in the rainforest. There will also be a selection of beautiful Huni Kuin arts & crafts as well as Rapéh for sale, so please bring extra cash.
