Saturday - Playing with Colour Linocut workshop. St Agnes
Sat 12 Oct 2024 10:30 AM - 3:30 PM
St Agnes Scout Hut, TR5 0TP
Description
Hello, my name is Niki and I'm a Printmaker in Porthtowan, Cornwall.
People that come on my single colour workshops often ask how to blend colours to create a colour roll. This longer Saturday session will teach you just that. Using extender and and white to make translucent or opaque colour rolls, fading from one colour to another. There will be the opportunity to try making a reduction linocut if you wish. This method involves taking a layer of lino away each time that you add another colour. It can be a bit of a head scramble but I'll talk you through all the way!
This will be a relaxed session but packed full of information. This is a longer session than my Blue Bar workshops.
You will learn how to design a print, transfer it to a block and use the correct tools to cut. Then how to mix ink, roll it and how to get the right consistency for a clean print. You will be hand burnishing on different papers. Finally (and quite crucially) you'll learn how to clean your block to preserve it for future use.
- You will learn to cut a piece of lino to create a plate to print from. We'll print it in a selection of colour rolls.
- I'll show you how to mix inks with extender to create translucent colurs or with white to create opaque ones.
- If you would like to make a reduction print I'll explain this and show you how you can incorporate colour rolls and gradients into this method.
- I will bring a selection of printmaking books for inspiration and some of my prints to explain the difference between a one colour linocut, and then multi block and the reduction method.
- If you like to plan a design ahead, work to around A5.
You will leave with your prints, cut blocks which you can use again and again (except reduction as you cut away the block as you work), hopefully a smile on your face and a new found love of printmaking!
If you have any issues which you feel will need extra support on the day please let me know beforehand so that I can bring appropriate resources.
