Kitchen Gardens Workshop
Many of the beautiful houses at the Ulster Folk Museum would have been sustained by small kitchen gardens where the residents would have grown native fruits and vegetables. In this workshop we will cover the history of some of the houses and the foods grown by their inhabitants. You will have the opportunity to prep a vegetable bed (the no dig way) and plant heritage vegetable seeds. For each variety of veg planted, we will explore the seeds provenance, discussing its historic journey throughout Ireland, learning the benefits and drawbacks of using heritage seeds.
Make sure to wear appropriate footwear (boots or wellies) and get ready to start your own sustainable kitchen garden!
