Imagining My Sustainable Community Art Camp

Imagining My Sustainable Community empowers students with an interest in art, design, and architecture to re-imagine the future of Toronto’s waterfront neighbourhood.

In this week-long camp, students will be immersed in a creative multimedia studio experience led by artists and architectural designers to learn about climate art, architectural model-making, and sustainable communities. Through an innovative exploration of the creative process and climate change solutions, students will utilize No.9’s pillars of sustainability to imagine, design, and model their own unique projects. ABOUT IMAGINING MY SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY
Imagining My Sustainable Community is a revolutionary new program that is engaging and energizing young people in a way never before seen in Canadian public education. It delivers an experiential workshop on how communities work, and inspires and empowers them to create solutions that will improve life in their communities for years to come. It’s not a lesson - it’s an experience.

Camp will run from Monday to Friday during the following weeks:
July 31st - August 4th
August 7th – 11th

DAILY SCHEDULE
Camp starts at 9:30am and finishes at 3:00pm.
There will be a lunch break from 12:00pm-1:00pm.
There will be a maximum of 10 participants per weekly session.

DAY 1: Introductions, Site-Visits, Concepts of Sustainability and Architecture, Ideation
DAY 2: Mapping, Brainstorming, Outdoor Natural Materials Exploration, Drawing and Sketching, Visit to Power Plant Gallery, Climate Art Exploration
DAY 3: Introduction to Architecture Poetics and Scaled Model-Making, Finalizing Individual Project Designs, Drawing and Sketching Ideas, Physical Model-Making
DAY 4: Individual and Collaborative Model-Making, Finalize Designs and Physical Pieces
DAY 5: Final Touch-Ups, Oral Presentations, Final Art Showing of Projects. We invite all parents to attend the camper’s Final Art Show between 2pm-3pm.

WHAT TO BRING
Lunch or lunch money: we recommend campers bring their own lunch, we will all have lunchtime outside in the courtyard, weather permitting.
Sunscreen/hats/sunglasses: campers will be outside for lunch everyday as well as on additional site-visits, art field trips, etc.. Campers will always be accompanied by a staff for off-site trips.
Water/water bottle: it is a good idea for campers to bring a refillable bottle to fill up during the day. There is an accessible kitchen and water fountains throughout the building.

We are No.9, a non-profit using art and design to bring awareness to environmental and community concerns. Through educational school programming, we focus on youth – the generation of the future. We work with students to inspire and encourage creative thinking around city planning, environmental issues and promoting a sustainable lifestyle.
