The Facilitation Forge
Multiple dates and times
Online, Zoom
Description
Join Annekatrin Madlung and Noel Warnell for a monthly event designed to:
🎨 Seek creative input on workshop and meeting design;
✨ Rehearse newly learned techniques;
💡 Experiment & Test ideas in a safe environment before facilitating “for real’!;
🤝 Collaborate and learn with peers through prompt and constructive feedback;
🛠 Co-create and forge activities;
🆘 Request help on a facilitation challenge or problem;
🌱 Grow your internal pool of fantastic facilitators.
Who is this for?
Managers / Team members who lead recurring meetings;
Leaders responsible for Board meetings; departmental town halls; strategy workshops;
Agile coaches who help organise and facilitate quarterly planning events;
Event / Workshop / Conference facilitators;
Trainers wishing to expand what’s in their toolbox.
Who won’t have fun?
Those who don’t run (or even attend) meetings and workshops;
Those who are not responsible for engaging people in collaborative activities;
Those who don’t want to actively participate.
How will each session run?
At the beginning of each session we will spin the ‘Wheel of facilitation’, and let it randomly choose a topic.
Once the topic is chosen, we will use the time to discuss, design, practice and play with fresh facilitation ideas around the given topic.
Each person is responsible for making their own notes as sessions will not be recorded.
We want these events to be as inclusive as possible so please let us know how we can support you in order to be able to contribute at your best.
What content will be covered?
There are many different aspects of facilitation. The wheel of facilitation has 14 slots, but only 10 are pre-filled. The rest will be filled by attendees.
Format and Times
Each session is typically 90 minutes long and includes 3-4 activities, facilitated by participants with proposals or experiments to try.
This event will alternate between UK morning and afternoons to allow for global participation.
There is no fixed agenda or time limit for each activity, allowing flexibility based on the event's needs.
This event will run for a limited number of 10 sessions only.
Why? When we facilitate a workshop we have a timebox to operate within. It’s an enabling constraint that naturally creates a sense of positive pressure to get stuff done and generate creative thinking.
Annekatrin and Noel, both experienced facilitators, are there simply to prepare and hold the space for creativity to flourish.
What are the outcomes we hope for?
Attendees will:
Strengthen their facilitation muscles
Gain more confidence speaking to and facilitating larger groups of people
Practice dealing with unexpected situations
Network with peers and learn from each other
Discover how to be more inclusive of the wide ranging, diverse needs of participants
So, if you are…
Anxious about facilitating something important coming up that you need to do a good job of;
Bored of using the same old techniques and ideas;
Wanting to improve something you’ve done before. (You know it can be better, but are not sure how to improve it),
Asked to design and run a meeting/workshop with more people than you’ve had before;
Stuck on how to add more fun and joy into your workshops / meetings.
…come and join us.
We're looking forward to seeing you!
AnneKatrin & Noel.
