Helvellyn Hike
Third time’s the charm… or at least the tradition now 😄
At 950m, Helvellyn is the third highest peak in England — and clearly one we just can’t stay away from. After me meet (yes, again), we kick things off with a gentle wander along a scenic stream — a nice warm-up before the real work begins.
Then it’s time to earn it. We take on the steady climb, tackling those familiar zig-zags as we make our way up to Dollywaggon Pike, where the first views of the day remind us exactly why we keep coming back. From there, we tick off Nethermost Pike (because two Wainwrights are better than one), and set our sights on the main event — Helvellyn itself.
At the summit, it’s the usual reward: unreal panoramic views across the Lake District, with Ullswater, Thirlmere, and countless peaks stretching out around us. Definitely worth the climb… again.
After a well-earned lunch stop (and probably a sit-down that lasts longer than planned), we take the scenic route back down — a more relaxed descent through the forest, back to the car park… already talking about whether we’ll be back for a fourth time.
