September 23: Beyond Workshops & Webinars
Presenter: Nancy Bacon
We want our workshop or webinars to leave people doing things differently. We deliver events to close a knowledge or skill gap that holds people back. But there is more to moving people to action than learning. Someone can take action because they get the right sample document at the right time. A checklist can keep people focused, and a simulation can reframe an issue and offer solutions. A game can spark a conversation that wouldn’t have otherwise happened. An effective learning strategy is a constellation of learning events and an intentional suite of supporting resources. Let’s go beyond workshop and webinars to examine how tools can empower your people to do what you need them to do.
During this session, you will explore the science behind tools. You will learn the 4+3 framework for action and how it translates into three kinds of action tools: bridge-to-action tools, DIY tools, and social tools. You will plan which of these tools would most help the people you serve to take action, leaving the session with tool (yup) to use in your future planning. INDIVIDUAL SESSION REGISTRATION
October 7: Designing Accessible Learning Programs
Presenters: Gwen Navarrete Klapperich & Elizabeth Ralston
One in four Americans has a disability. Designing your learning programs to be accessible from the very beginning makes learning better for EVERYONE. Designing Accessible Learning provides a framework for thinking about how to help learners with disabilities learn in your online or in-person session. You will learn about Universal Design for Learning principles and how to maximize accessibility in your virtual learning programs. You will leave the session with a short list of steps to make your learning programs more accessible. INDIVIDUAL SESSION REGISTRATION
November 9: Graphics and Design for Learning
Presenter: Nancy Bacon
Your content can either land flat or come alive with the right graphics and design. If you use the right balance of color, graphics, fonts, and empty space, you can inspire more engagement and greater impact from your workshop or webinar. You can go from a hum-drum PowerPoint to a visual experience that reinforces learning.
Learn the adult learning research behind graphics and design. Experience before and after designs and create your own list of rules that you would like to follow in your own design. Finally, take a workshop or webinar that you are working on and apply the lessons. You will benefit from peer reflection and feedback to leave the class with a new lens on how you use graphics and design in your learning program. INDIVIDUAL SESSION REGISTRATION
