Build a Powerhouse Board
Coffee and conversation about how to ensure that your board taps into its full potential
FRIDAY, September 16 | 8:00-10:00am
Yakima Valley Community Foundation conference room | 316 E Yakima Ave Suite 201, Yakima
Your board has tremendous potential power. It can move your mission forward with focus and intention if it is set up for success. Too often boards don’t tap into their full power because their members don’t know what the job is, aren’t prepared to do the job, or aren’t effectively supported. You can take a few steps to ensure that your board taps into its full power, making you more effective and your mission more impactful.
This interactive session is designed for board members and the staff members who work with them. You will explore the four areas where boards can focus their energy to maximize impact. You will learn strategies for addressing some of the biggest barriers to board success: time, diversity of members, a clear understanding of role, and a shared commitment to the organization’s goals. Come ready with your biggest challenges and ideas that have made a difference.
The content for this session will be drawn from Powerhouse Boards, a new board course also available in an on-demand version at www.nonprofitlearning.center. Participants will receive a copy of the 28-page workbook to use during the session and with your board. It provides reflection questions, small actions, and checklists to move your board forward.
