In the second, NTUC May Day Lecture local historian John Buckell details some of the events that took place in Northampton leading up to and during the General Strike in 1926.
Nine days in May 1926. The pits fell silent. The trams and the trains stopped. Printers walked away from presses. Dockers stood still on the quays. For nine days, working people showed what happens when they act together. For nine days, the country held its breath.
There will be a question and answer session after the lecture.
There will be a buffet available at the start of the event. Please email secretary@ntuc.org.uk if you have any dietary restrictions. Please secure a ticket for a vegan, vegetarian or non-vegetarian option and help us arrange the catering and reduce food waste.
