When the council threatens to close the local running club, Precious, Taylor and Leah enter the most intense training block they’ve ever had. The race becomes less about running and more about the girls' need for connection.
Trust the process, because what you do out there could be f*cking incredible.
Age guidance: 12+. Please note, the play references sexual violence, racism and grief. For more information, email info@northern-broadsides.co.uk.
This informal rehearsed reading is a culmination of three years' work on the Life in a Northern Town programme; a creative writing opportunity for young people across the North of England, delivered by Northern Broadsides, The Grand Theatre Blackpool and The Customs House South Shields, supported by Didymus.
About the Playwright

Lydia Kavanagh (she/her) is a writer and performer for stage and screen.
She is one of the founding members of comedy collective Your Aunt Fanny. Who creates work that vividly captures a night out on the town with your oldest, wildest, filthiest friend. The fannies have performed at Soho Theatre, Live Theatre, The Tron Glasgow and many many more.
Currently she’s working on her debut solo show Lydia Kavanagh is Gay Icon which asks the age old question: ’Am I a proper lesbian if I don’t know how to mount a TV on the wall?’. The show was part of Alphabetti Theatre’s work-in-progress season and hopes to develop further into the new year.
Lydia was a member of the Royal Court Writers Group, BFI Script Lab, Channel 4 x New Writing North’s Script Hub and others. Her work has been performed at Riverside Studios, Live Theatre, and The Lowry to name but a few.
She also ran the London Marathon and will brag about it at any opportunity she gets.
Life in a Northern Town is supported by Didymus
