History
The North Georgia Community Players, known then as just Community Players, was organized in early 2000 with their first production, "Fiddler on the Roof". This small group of thespians was looking to form a volunteer-driven community theater to develop interest in the theatre arts and bring stage productions to the people of Rabun County and surrounding areas. They believed that a deeper appreciation for art, particularly the art of the stage, would help inspire creativity and build stronger communities. For the first several years, NGCP performed in several different locations, never having a space to call home. In 2005, however, NGCP truly came to life when they obtained use of the historic Old Dillard School House for their productions. This finally allowed the organization to grow and take shape. To date, the North Georgia Community Players have put on over sixty productions including some more familiar plays like "Steel Magnolias", "The Sound of Music", and "The Little Mermaid."
Mission
The mission of The North Georgia Community Players is to develop original artists from our community and inspire all ages to explore their theatrical talent. In doing so, we will provide learning experiences in all aspects of theater and showcase local talent through stage productions for the community. It is our hope to raise appreciation of the dramatic arts and to be a cultural asset to our community.
Scholarship
It is very important to NGCP to enrich the lives of the youth of Rabun County. One way we support teens is by awarding the annual Sue Boshart Memorial Scholarship to a student who has been active in the theater in previous years and is going on to secondary education after high school.
Outreach
Every summer the players "take the show on the road" to our local assisted living/nursing home facilities where we entertain the residents with singing, dancing, and acting. They always join in the show as well. It is such a privilege and joy for us to share this time with some of our most seasoned Rabun County fans.
