This training is facilitated by NAPAC (National Association for People Abused in Childhood), a UK charity specialising in the impact of trauma and abuse and the development of trauma-informed practice across services and systems.
This training is suitable for all staff and volunteers working with adults in North Lincolnshire.
The training will explore the foundations of trauma-informed practice, including the key principles of safety, trust, choice, collaboration and empowerment. Participants will examine how:
- trauma influences behaviour
- relationships and engagement, particularly in complex safeguarding contexts.
A central focus will be on applying trauma-informed thinking in practice, including how professionals interpret behaviour, make decisions and record information.
The training will address common gaps identified in audits, such as separating description of behaviour from understanding of underlying need or trauma history. Participants will explore realistic multi-agency scenarios reflecting your workforce, including self-neglect, housing instability and substance misuse, with a focus on improving consistency of response across services.
The session will also include reflective work on vicarious trauma and practitioner wellbeing, supporting sustainable, compassionate practice in high-demand environments.
Learning Outcomes - By the end of the training, participants will be able to:
- Understand the core principles of trauma-informed practice and their relevance to safeguarding work Recognise how trauma can shape behaviour, engagement and presentation across service users
- Apply trauma-informed thinking to assessment, decision-making and case formulation
- Strengthen consistency in how trauma is reflected in case recording and use appropriate language
- Improve responses to complex presentations such as self-neglect, homelessness and substance use
- Reflect on the impact of vicarious trauma and identify strategies for sustaining wellbeing in practice
