Transactional Analysis (TA) is a practical way of understanding how people communicate, and why some patterns in our relationships keep repeating. The TA101 is the official introduction to it: a two-day, face-to-face course covering the core theory, with tools you can use straight away at work and at home.

What we cover

The TA101 follows the official syllabus set by EATA (the European Association for Transactional Analysis). Along the way, it gives you a way of thinking about some familiar questions:

• "Why do I act like my mum or dad? Or suddenly feel like a little kid again?" (Ego states)
• "What's going on in this conversation?" (Transactions)
• "Why is praise so awkward to give or receive?" (Strokes)
• "Can I sense the car crash coming?" (Psychological games)
• "Why do I keep making the same mistakes?" (Life scripts)

How it's taught

Some of it is theory. Some of it is hands-on: picture cards, diagrams and exercises, the kind of tools you'll remember afterwards. We keep the group small so there's time for discussion, individual feedback and thinking about how the ideas apply to your own situation. And yes, there are biscuits.

Who teaches it
The course is led by Andy Williams (TSTA, UKCP, MBACP, BABCP), Training Director at Northside Training.

Who it's for
There are no entry requirements, and you don't need to be academic to get a lot out of it. Plenty of people come from counselling and psychotherapy. Others come from coaching, HR, management, teaching or social work, or simply because they're curious about how people work.

Venue
Mercure Leeds Parkway Hotel, North West Leeds. It's a relaxed setting at the edge of Golden Acre Park. There is plenty of parking, and it's on the main bus routes from Leeds/Otley

What you'll receive
On completion you'll receive the TA101 certificate. It's recognised internationally and is the prerequisite for any further training in Transactional Analysis. Its transferrable to anywhere that offers TA training.

Before you book

Is this therapy? No, it's a training course. You'll be invited to reflect on your own experience, but you decide how much you share.

Do I need to attend both days? Yes, the full two days are needed to receive the certificate.

How many places are there? A maximum of 18.

What if I can't make it? We offer refunds within 30 days of the event. We can't refund within the 30 days.
