The NPS has hired a carriage on Tanfield Railway, the world’s oldest railway, for a pipers' summer outing.  It is a “Heritage Steam Railway” and should be an afternoon to remember for pipers' families and friends. Bring your own picnic food and drink for a unique summer afternoon - and don’t forget your pipes - or other instruments!

Will suit families and friends. £8 per person. Limited places! Only 30 seats are available in the carriage.

Time: Arrive at East Tanfield Station (DH9 9UY) at 1.30pm to get ready before the train departs at 2.00pm sharp – there will be other passengers so it won’t wait for us. We are booked for two round trips so the train will be back at East Tanfield at about 3.02pm, and our excursion will finish at 4.17pm (a very precise timetable!).

Getting there:  East Tanfield station is about 10 miles south west of Newcastle. There is limited public transport. See https://www.tanfield-railway.co.uk/find-us/

If travelling by car, there is free parking at East Tanfield station, which is on the road linking the A6076 with Tanfield Village. The approach from Chester-le-Street and the A1(M) is via the A693 Stanley road and from Tyneside and Junction 68 on the A1, it is via the A692 Consett road.
