Given that 2019 marks Norwich Jazz Club’s 30th year in its present form it seemed only right to push the boat out a little and when Jim Rattigan got in touch about his Pavillon ensemble it seemed like too good an opportunity to miss.

The line-up of this contemporary 12-piece ensemble reads like a who’s who of the UK jazz scene and features many of the great players that we’ve seen at the club over the last 30 years (admittedly some not recently enough..)

Jim’s writing for the band arises from a tradition that leads from Duke Ellington through Gil Evans and Charles Mingus and has enjoyed much critical acclaim in the music press; but to get the clearest idea of the nature and calibre of the project you'll find multiple tracks from the band’s 2011 album Strong Tea here: https://www.youtube.com/channe...

It’s not yet clear how we’ll fit the band on the stage at Bedfords (!) but you’re guaranteed a lively night in the intimate space that the bar provides. We hope that you’ll forgive the slightly elevated admission price which enables us to feature this amazing band.

About the venue

Gigs take place in the upstairs bar where up to 70 patrons can be accommodated around tables, in the sofas or on individual seats. There's a great choice of beers and wines at the bar and complimentary table snacks will be available. (Please note that meals are currently not available at the venue). The nearest multi-story car park is St.Andrew's Car Park a short 2min walk away on Duke Street.
