Workshop Introduction
This workshop is a comprehensive learning day of all things bone stress injury (BSI) in performing and dancing athletes. The day promises to be highly evidence based and also very practical. Shane and Jonny will be using their years of experience working in sport and dance to create an engaging and high quality day learning how to identify and rehabilitate BSI of the lower limb.
The day will include the following;
- Learn about the epidemiology of bone injury of the lower limb and understand whether your sport has a BSI problem
- Understand the latest theory on BSI aetiology and why these injuries develop
- Be able to recognise the risk factors that will contribute to BSI risk in your athlete
- Be introduced to key management principals and frameworks for management of BSI that you can apply to your environment
- Learn subjective and objective assessment techniques
- Practice gym based assessment and management
This day is aimed at physiotherapists, sport therapists, SEM doctors, S&C coaches, sport rehabbers
Presenter biographies
Shane Kelly: Shane completed his undergraduate studies at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. Before relocating to the UK, he earned a master’s degree in sports physiotherapy and was appointed a postgraduate scholar at the Australian Institute of Sport in 2009. Recently has also completed his MSc in Strength and Conditioning. Shane has 15 years’ experience as a physiotherapist in elite athletics and has contributed to four Olympic cycles with the Australian and Great British teams. In September 2020, he was appointed Clinical Director of The Royal Ballet Healthcare, where he has been able to expand his clinical acumen through leadership, research, CPD and clinical governance.
Jonathan Bucke: Jonny is an experienced clinician, working as the Lead Physiotherapist at the Royal Ballet. Alongside this, he was the Head Physiotherapist for Team England at the 2026 Commonwealth Games. Previously, he was the Lead Physiotherapist at British Gymnastics and supported Team GB at the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Olympic Games. He has completed two Masters degrees; in Advanced Manipulative Physiotherapy and Sports Medicine. He teaches nationally at various universities and conferences throughout the UK and has published several peer reviewed research articles across injury and rehabilitation.
Tickets cost £150.00 for the day.
Tickets include the workshop and refreshments throughout the day. Lunch will not be provided though there is a canteen onsite.

Arrival Instructions:
If you have purchased your ticket for the event please note that access to the Opera House and Ballet Healthcare is very controlled. Please arrive at Stage Door, Floral Street, Royal Opera House Building by 9.15am on the day. Jonny and Shane must meet you at Stage Door and take you up to the clinic in person.
