1525 NG83: When We Were B Boys
Sat 7 Sep 2024 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM
Nottingham Contemporary, NG1 2GB
Description
Join us for a special screening of NG83: When We Were B Boys by Luke Scott, Claude Knight and Sam Derby-Cooper, featuring live music and discussion.
Five former breakdancers reflect on their youthful rites of passage through the vibrant UK Hip Hop scene of the early 1980s and how it allowed them to escape the confines of life on inner city council estates. As the wild energy of the scene burned out their adolescent dreams, they met the realities of adulthood. Previously unseen archive footage shines the light on a forgotten era in British youth culture in this humorous and poignant character-driven documentary. Once a B Boy, Always a B Boy…
This event follows our 1525 Capoeira: The God Mother of Hip hop workshop, exploring how music and movement are used to retain history and identity in resistance to social injustice.
