Taking inspiration from currently exhibiting artist Sarah Cunningham's paintings and their connections with landscapes and the natural world, Nottingham-based artist and witch Wingshan invites you to join a gentle workshop exploring ritual as artistic practice.

Working with pre-made padded textile altars, participants will use painting, hand-stitching, herbs, fabric and small found materials to create a portable personal altar. Through the four corners of the altar, the workshop will open up ideas around seasons, elements, animism* and our own experiences of cyclical change.

You will be encouraged to create your own correspondences and meanings through colour, materials and objects, making an altar that can continue to shift and grow beyond the workshop as new seasons arrive.

No previous painting or sewing experience is needed - just curiosity and a willingness to experiment. You are welcome to bring along anything you would like to include in your altar!

*Animism is the worldview that animals, plants, rocks, rivers, and other natural phenomena possess a distinct spiritual essence, soul, or personal agency.

Please note that tickets are very limited, so we kindly ask you to book only if you are able to attend, and to email us at info@nottinghamcontemporary.org to cancel your booking if you can no longer make it to the session.
