Clay Totems at Nourished Communities N1, Sunday 5 July, 2-4pm
Join artist Natalie Charles for an afternoon of creative play inspired by your personal symbols.
A totem is a sacred object that represents a group of people or acts as a spiritual/ancestral emblem. In this workshop, you’ll be encouraged to think of memories, motifs and moments that make you feel safe or loved. You'll be guided through how to replicate these as small sculptures with the option to make them into charms to decorate an accessory of your choice such as jewellery or bag charms.
We'll be using air-dry clay and you’ll be able to take your creations home with you. There will be examples and references if you need extra inspiration! The session is beginner friendly with no experience needed. Highlights from previous sessions are listed here.
Key info:
- Guided session on working with air-dry clay
- Suitable for all abilities
- Examples and references available for inspiration
- You'll take your creations home
- All materials provided

Natalie is an artist, educator and facilitator exploring sensitivity and relational dynamics. She moves between drawing, painting, craftwork and animation, collating overlooked moments through careful examination of personal archives; fragmented stories, inherited objects and ancestral connections. Her work invites the viewer to reflect on their memories and emotions through hers.
Natalie is a Drawing Year 2024 alumnus from the Royal Drawing School, Trustee at Packed Lunch and member of Grafters Collective. In 2025, she was selected for RBA Rising Stars, the Delphian Gallery Open Call and the Richard Ford Award, a funded residency at Museo del Prado, Madrid.
