Description

Let’s hear it for the indie publishers !

Novel Nights is holding a special zoom event to celebrate independent publishing with Kevin Duffy of Bluemoose Books.

The indie publishing sector frequently champions new writers from all kinds of backgrounds.

Bluemoose Books are based in Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire. Kevin and Hetha Duffy founded the company in 2006 and as a ‘family’ of readers and writers they’re passionate about the written word and stories.

They say they ‘delight in finding great new talent.’

While they don’t have the heft of a London publishing house, with big marketing budgets to promote writers ,they do manage through innovative promotion and pr to get their books into high street bookstores and reviewed in the national press:

Their successes include the award winning Leonard and Hungry Paul by Ronan Hession and The Gallows Pole by Benjamin Myers which won The Walter Scott Prize - the world’s leading award for historical fiction.

In 2020 they devoted themselves to publishing titles by women writers including Saving Lucia by Anna Vaught.

In this special Novel Nights evening Kevin Duffy will offer insights into the independent publishing sector, talk about some of the challenges they have faced over the last year. He will also explain what he looks for when people send their work to them. There will be time for questions about their submissions process and how they work with writers.

Tickets are £4.00 - £5.50
