An Intimate Evening of Spoken Word & Music w/ Lydia Lunch, Andrew Mackelvie & Gabriella Ciurcovich

with special guest Laura Lee.

Lydia Lunch is passionate, confrontational and bold. Whether attacking the patriarchy and their pornographic war mongering, turning the sexual into the political or whispering a love song to the broken hearted, her fierce energy and rapid fire delivery lend testament to her warrior nature.
Queen of No Wave, muse of The Cinema of Transgression, writer, musician, poet, spoken word artist and photographer, she has released too many musical projects to tally, has been on tour for decades, working with such luminaries as Rowland S Howard, Thurston Moore, Omar Rodriguez Lopez, Karen Finley, Jerry Stahl, The Last Poets, and Hubert Selby JR.
She has published dozens of articles, half a dozen books translated into 9 languages, appeared in numerous documentaries, conducted workshops, taught at Universities including The San Francisco Art Institute and simply refuses to just shut up.

Andrew MacKelvie is an improviser, saxophonist, composer, and educator from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Currently, he leads the 8-piece minimalist-groove ensemble Many Worlds and the joyous quintet Borrowers. Artists he has performed or recorded with artists that include Angel Bat Dawid, Lido Pimienta, Aquakultre, Erin Costelo, Michael C. Duguay, Major Funk, Roxy & the Underground Soul Sound, Bethany Fulde, the 6 Star Review, and many others.

He co-runs the record label Watch that Ends the Night with Michael C. Duguay.

Gabriella Ciurcovich
is a bassist, composer, improvisor and active member of the K'jipuktuk/Halifax Creative Music Community. You can find her playing with rumé kover, The Dusty Halos, SCIONS, Many Worlds, and countless other musical and interdisciplinary groups, along with her own songwriting project, popuri.  Gabriella holds a BMusic in Jazz performance from the University of Toronto.

Laura Lee discovered music at a young age, playing a child's drum kit in the basement and piano at the conservatory. In high school she moved on to clarinet and choral work before being introduced to medieval and contemporary classical in university. She joined Samba Nova where she learned African and Brazilian rhythms. Eventually she took part in the Creative Music Workshop, where friend and mentor Jerry Granelli encouraged her to create her own sounds from salvaged instruments and found objects.
