SINGET! German Baroque Motets

Resurgam’s programme of German motets of the 17th and 18th centuries ranges from the austere to the joyful, from intimate solos to sonorous works in eight parts. It explores a variety of scorings, utilising the forces of Resurgam’s eight voices, two violins, and continuo (cello and chamber organ). The title of the concert (meaning Sing!) is taken from the two eight-part settings of the text Singet dem Herrn which frame the programme and come from either end of the Baroque period: the first an early seventeenth-century work by Heinrich Schütz, and the second J.S. Bach’s famous and exuberantly virtuosic setting in eight parts. Other works by Vierdanck, Rosenmüller, J.C. Bach and Buxtehude will bring a captivating range of colour to the programme, with various combinations of voices and instruments. Through its outreach programme, Resurgam Connects, Ireland's premier early music choir continues its outreach work to regional choirs and ensembles through its repeat collaboration with the Saint Mary Cathedral Choir and Sagittarius Hiberniensis, a vocal chamber ensemble specialising in early choral music, both directed by Peter Barley, organist and music director at Saint Mary's Cathedral.

Featured works include Heinrich Schütz's Singet dem Herrn, Johann Vierdanck's Ich freue mich in Herrn, Johann Rosenmüller's Warlich warlich, Buxtehude's Jesu meine Freude, J.C. Bach's Es ist nun aus mit meinem Leben, J.S. Bach's Lobet den Herrn and J.S. Bach's Singet dem Herrn.
