Rare Plant Survey for Quayle's Ragwort (Senecio quaylei)

Meet at 8:45 am at the Brookshire's in Weatherford at 601 Palo Pinto St (Highway 180), Weatherford, TX 76086. Park near the street. We will caravan from Weatherford, stopping at up to 4 locations to search for known populations of Senecio quaylei, which has a state rank of S1 (S1 being the rarest of plants with 1-6 sites). We will finish by 1 pm after we go to Fort Wolters to look for the last known location. According to authorities, Quayle's Ragwort (Senecio quaylei) is a hybrid species, originating from Texas Groundsel (Senecio ampullaceus). Seeds from Senecio quaylei are reported to not be viable or rarely germinate due to hybridization. Described in December 2000 by Dr Ted Barkley at BRIT (deceased).
