Join us for a tour of Farview and Little Farview Prairies at the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge. We will also be searching for a newly discovered rare species recently described as a new species in 2007 by Dwayne Estes of the Southeastern Grasslands Initiative (SGI) that occurs at the FWNCR. This rare species occurs in approximately 9 counties in North Texas, including one county in Central Texas. It grows on limestone barrens in temporary pools, sometimes lined with algae. Also, it occurs on moist stream banks on calcareous soils. According to Nature Serve, this species is known from the Lampasas Cut Plains and the Grand Prairie with about 49 locations. It has a state rank of S3. We will also check out the mulched areas where Privet has recently been removed. After stopping at the front gate, go past the buffalo range and turn left at the 90 degree right bend. Park in the parking lot at the Wild Plum trailhead. Walk back along the road to meet at 8:45 am in the parking area on the west side of the buffalo range along Buffalo Road. Your observations will be automatically uploaded to the FWNC iNaturalist project.
