LBJ National Grasslands, Unit #31
Join us for a prairie tour of unit 31 at the LBJ National Grasslands north of Decatur, TX. This is one of the most diverse units on the grasslands, with 311 species present. Hopefully the timing will be good to showcase the Shooting Stars (Primula meadia) and Shield Fern (Pelazoneuron kunthii).
Meet at the Shell gas station at 8:45am on the NE corner at 2105 S College Ave., Decatur, TX 76234. Restrooms are still available in a few areas once we get to the grasslands.
Species expected in this plant community: Atrema americanum (Bifora americana), Asclepias viridiflora, Matelea biflora, Berlandiera betonicifolia (texana), Echinacea angustifolia, Engelmannia peristenia, Grindelia nuda, Liatris aestivalis, Liatris mucronata (punctata), Marshallia caespitosa, Silphium albiflorum, Silphium laciniatum, Thelesperma filifolium, Physaria engelmannii (Lesquerella engelmannii), Coryphantha sulcata, Pelecyphora missouriensis (Escobaria missouriensis), Pelecyphora vivipara (Escobaria vivipara), Lonicera albiflora, Evolvulus nuttallianus, Stillingia texana, Astragalus lotiflorus, Dalea aurea, Dalea multiflora, Dalea tenuis, Mimosa quadrivalvis (Mimosa roemeriana), Pediomelum cuspidatum, Hypoxis hirsuta, Nemastylis geminiflora, Hedeoma drummondii, Salvia texana, Scutellaria drummondii, Scutellaria wrightii, Linum berlandieri, Mentzelia oligosperma, Callirhoe pedata, Oenothera berlandieri, Oenothera glaucifolia (Stenosiphon linifolius), Penstemon cobaea, Senega alba (Polygala alba), Primula meadia (Dodecatheon meadia), Ceanothus herbaceus, Stenaria nigricans and Pelazoneuron kunthii (Thelypteris kunthii).
