Think you can handle the heat?

Raise funds for Oakleaf by completing this once in a lifetime challenge! Oakleaf is delighted to be partnering with the Matrix Trust and Surrey Care Trust for a sponsored Firewalk event. The firewalk is suitable for people of all physical abilities and is the perfect opportunity to grow your confidence by doing something completely out of your comfort zone.

What to expect?

You will be fully supported with an in-depth training session led by an expert team of firewalking professionals - Firewalk UK. They will take you through how to safely complete your firewalk across hot coals. They will also walk alongside you to help you through the challenge.

We will also be there on hand to heat up the atmosphere and celebrate your amazing achievement.

After the walk, you’ll receive a certificate and we will take plenty of photos so you can proudly share them with friends and family.

Whether you take part as an individual or as part of a group with friends of colleagues, you can help Oakleaf provide support for hundreds of individuals in Surrey who need our vital mental health support.

Registration Fee: £20

Sponsorship Target: £100

Firewalk Guidelines

- It is a trick? No. The fire is very real. The embers will be glowing red-hot – we can often measure the
temperature at around 1200 degrees Fahrenheit. You will have bare feet, and they will not have been treated in any way.

- Will it hurt? The sensation is described by some as walking on eggshells, others as walking on hot sand. Each walker has his or her own experience. We have not known walkers to experience pain, indeed when the opportunity arises many will walk across the coals more than once

- How can I prepare? There is no physical preparation to undertake, just bring the courage and confidence to tackle this unique challenge. You should abstain from the consumption of alcohol or drugs prior to the event. Any person who is in the opinion of the trainer unfit to participate will not be permitted to take part.

- How fit do I need to be? There is no strenuous physical exercise involved. If you can walk normally then you should manage the Firewalk perfectly well. If you have any doubts, please consult your GP before attending.

- Supporters? We would love for as many of your friends, family colleagues to come along to watch your firewalk. They do not need a ticket, but if you could please let us know how many are attending, that would be great.

- What do I need to wear?  There is no special clothing required, casual comfortable clothes suitable for outdoor November conditions are best. Clothes may become ash stained. Please ensure if you wear trousers they can be rolled up and there is no obstacle to removing your socks. Footwear needs to be easy to remove so dig out the summer flip flops! Nail varnish and toe rings are fine. Please ensure your feet are clean and free from massage and pedicure oils.

- It is safe? There is an inherent risk in any activity involving fire. It is important that participants pay attention to all the training and heed the advice and instruction of the trainer, firewatchers and spotters. Whilst absolute safety is not guaranteed proper procedure reduces risk to the achievable minimum.

- What if the weather is bad? Due to the outdoor nature of the event, we will keep you up to date with as much notice as possible.

- What if I change my mind? You may withdraw at any point.
